Circulation and internationalization

From the territory to new circuits.

We articulate markets, exchanges, institutions, festivals and dissemination strategies to expand the presence of Amazonian artists and projects in Brazil and abroad.

To circulate is not only to arrive somewhere else.It means building conditions to remain in new networks.

More than displacement

Circulation is presence, relation and continuity.

Taking a work or an artist to another territory is only one part of the process.

Cultural circulation also involves positioning, materials preparation, technical adequacy, communication, institutional articulation, logistics, recording and follow-up of contacts made.

When these dimensions are organized, a one-off participation can generate new opportunities for dissemination, exchange, training, co-production or cooperation.

  1. 01The work needs to be prepared.
  2. 02The context needs to be understood.
  3. 03The relationship needs to be built.
  4. 04The development needs to be followed up.

Forms of insertion

Different paths connect a project to new audiences and territories.

  1. Market

    Creative markets

Environments for presentation, negotiation, relationship building and opportunity creation among cultural agents.

  2. Presentation

    Festivals and showcases

Spaces for presentation, dissemination, exchange and connection with programmers, curators and audiences.

  3. Exchange

    Exchanges

Experiences of artistic, pedagogical, cultural and institutional exchange among groups, artists and territories.

  4. Development

    Residencies and programs

Research, training, creation or development processes linked to specific institutions and calls.

  5. Memory

    Audiovisual distribution

Use of documentaries, records and content to expand circulation beyond physical presence.

  6. Network

    Networks and cooperations

Institutional relations that can generate follow-ups, co-production, training, support, exchange or circulation.

Readiness for circulation

Before the trip, there is a structure to prepare.

Insertion in markets, festivals and programs requires the project to communicate clearly what it is, how it works, what technical conditions it has and what type of connection it seeks.

  • Positioning

Definition of the project’s identity, differentiator and cultural context.

  • Presentation materials

Portfolio, synopsis, records, images, videos, technical sheet and institutional information.

  • Artistic proposal

Clarity about work, language, audience, duration, needs and adaptation possibilities.

  • Technical conditions

Space, equipment, team, setup, accessibility and operational requirements.

  • Feasibility

Schedule, budget, travel, lodging, meals, documentation and possible funding sources.

  • Communications

Languages, oral presentation, materials suited to the interlocutor and follow-up of contacts.

  • Documentation and continuity

Documentation of the action, organization of results and maintenance of relations started.

From opportunity to development

Circulation is built in stages.

  1. Mapping

Identification of markets, programs, festivals, calls, institutions and territories related to the project.

  2. Preparation

Organization of materials, positioning, documentation and presentation conditions.

  3. Insertion

Registration, selection, participation, institutional presentation or entry into the market environment.

  4. Articulation

Meetings, rounds, listening, proposal presentation and understanding each interlocutor’s interests.

  5. Feasibility

Analysis of resources, documents, logistics, schedule, responsibilities and action conditions.

  6. Follow-up

Recording of contacts, response, negotiation, delivery, evaluation and building of possible developments.

A meeting only becomes an opportunity when there is follow-up, compatibility and viability.

The value of participation is not only in the number of meetings, but in the quality of follow-ups and subsequent monitoring.

Circulation in public policy

From territorial award to projection in France.

An artist linked to the Dança Carajás ecosystem was selected under a federal public policy for cultural internationalization for circulation in France in 2025. The selection expanded the representation of the North Region in international circuits and strengthened JA’s institutional connection with the circulation of Amazonian dance.

  • Territorial origin

The trajectory begins with an artist recognized in the Dança Carajás environment.

  • Public selection

Insertion through the Brasil Conexões Internacionais program, according to portfolio documentation.

  • Representation

Presence of the North Region in an international dance circuit.

  • Articulation

Institutional accompaniment, communication, positioning and connection with the French context.

Biennale de la Danse de Lyon appears in the portfolio as a reference for the circulation context. That does not mean JA produced the Biennale, that Dança Carajás officially took part in the full program, or that the producer was selected as a company.

Relations at different stages

Not every connection has the same level of formalization.

Markets and exchanges can generate relations at different stages. Some result in completed actions; others remain proposals, exploratory contacts or opportunities in development.

  • Completed

Project, participation, exhibition, circulation or completed activity.

  • Formalized

Agreement, selection, partnership or documented commitment.

  • In progress

Proposal presented or conversation with next steps still unfinished.

  • Exploratory

    Initial contact without formal commitment.

Transparency about the stage of relations strengthens institutional credibility.

Circulation possibilities

Different projects require different paths.

  1. Artist or group with a finished work

For those who need to organize materials, positioning, technical requirements and insertion possibilities.

  2. Cultural project seeking new circuits

For initiatives that wish to engage with festivals, markets, institutions or platforms.

  3. Festival or institution

For organizations interested in exchange, cooperation, content, training or territorial articulation.

  4. International program or interlocutor

For institutions seeking to meet artists, projects and cultural initiatives from Amazônia.

Every opportunity must be assessed for artistic fit, project stage, documentation, schedule, resources and opportunity conditions. JA does not act as an exclusive artists’ agency and does not guarantee selection, hiring or circulation.
